THE SUDDEN STOP
Alan Wake was a very famous writer over the years, although he suffered from writers block for the past two years. He lived with his wife in a penthouse in New York. After a long night of drinking Alan came home and crashed on his bed. The next morning his wife “Alice” told him that he couldn’t keep up like this and suggested a vacation, that was when the dream occurred.
Chapter 1: Nightmare
All Alan could remember was speeding down a desolate road in the middle of the night. The moons light was scattered along the road from the tall standing trees. All of the sudden a man with a military coat jumped out in front of him. With too little time to react, Alan slammed into him. As Alan was getting out of the car he was thinking about how that for some reason he had to desperately get to the lighthouse for fear that he would never see Alice again. When Alan approached the mangled body on the road he realized that the man was dead and he would have to spend the rest of his life in prison. Out of nowhere his car lights shut off behind him. Alan looked back and saw only darkness, when he went to look back at the man he was gone.
Alan saw the lighthouse in the distance, his car suffered from the crash, he would have to go on foot. Alan couldn’t make out exactly where he was. He was surrounded by a foggy mist and tall pine trees.
Alan stood under a light post and then saw a shadowy figure by his wrecked car. Black mist consumed his entire body, he held an axe. Alan regretfully realized that it was the man that he had hit. It ran so fast at Alan that it nearly teleported towards him. With his axe held high he said, “You created me, and now your creation will be the death of you”. Alan hadn’t heard any other voice like it, and he wouldn’t forget it. The shadowy man made its way towards Alan swinging its axe. Alan dodged the attack and ran off into the forest. Alan couldn’t believe what was happening, “you created me” what did that mean?
As Alan sprinted through the forest he could hear the deranged man behind him. Out of nowhere a bright light came through the darkness of the night. A human like figure hovered in the light, it told Alan to burn the evil away with light, then it vanished. The shadow being had caught up to Alan; he saw a revolver and a flashlight on the ground. Alan didn’t heed the lights warning and picked up the gun. He fired but it did nothing. Alan then picked up the flashlight and pointed it at him, he could see the darkness burning away. The dark being let out a horrifying scream, Alan then picked up the gun and fired.
“Alan wake up were here”. Alan awoke to the presents of his wife. They were on a boat, Alan looked up at a bridge that held a huge sign reading “ WELCOME TO BRIGHT FALLS”.
CHAPTER 2: TAKEN
As Alan wandered around the boat he saw an old man leaning against the railing. Alan introduced himself but there was no need the man knew all of him. His name was Bob; he had worked at the Bright Falls radio station for many years now. He asked Alan if he could get an interview later on. Alan replied that he was here on vacation and wanted to keep it that way. Bob understood and told Alan that his offer still stands.
The boat pulled into the harbor, when Alan got off he realized what a beautiful place it was. It was a small town maybe a population of six hundred people. Bright Falls was mainly famous for their gorgeous scenic over looks. Alice and Alan were driving through town when she stopped in front of the dinner. “The landlord has the keys for you inside, I will go get directions” said Alice. Alan stepped out of the car and into the dinner. It was a classic small town dinner. A waitress approached Alan. “Your Alan Wake!” she said. Alan tried to get to the point and asked for the landlord. The waitress pointed down the hall. Alan saw an old woman at the start of the hall. “Someone has to fix these lights” she said. Alan peered into the hall, it was dark and gloomy.
As Alan made his way down the dark hall he reached the landlords office. He knocked but there was no answer. Then a lady dressed as if she was going to a funeral approached him. The mysterious lady handed Alan the keys and told him that she would be seeing him and his wife soon. Alan confused walked out of the diner and into the car. Judging from the drive duration the cabin was in the middle of nowhere. Finally they got there and it was beautiful. The cabin sat on a lake surrounded by mountains. Alice and Alan were getting settled in, Alice was upstairs and Alan was watching TV. Alice called Alan up for a surprise, so Alan went. In the bedroom Alice was sitting on the bed. “Its in your study room” she said. Alan went into the study to find a typewriter. “This is a very inspirational place Alan”. Alan was furious, he yelled at Alice telling her that this was supposed to be to get away from it all. Alan stormed off into the night.
Alan sat on the dock by the cabin alone thinking about it all, when he heard a loud scream come from Alice. Alan raced up the stairs to his room. The window was open, Alan peered out of it and saw Alice in the lake. “OH NO!” he exclaimed and dove in after her.
Alan woke up in a crashed car in the forest, he couldn’t recall how it happened. Alan crawled out of the car with a huge gash in his head. On the ground there was a page it read “The Sudden Stop by Alan Wake. Alan didn’t remember even writing this, he read on. “Alan made his way out of the car and into the night hoping to reach the gas station so he could use a phone.” Alan looked away from the page and in the distance he could see the gas station. “incredible” he thought. As Alan was making his way through the forest he came across a construction site.
There was a trailer and Alan hoped there would be a phone in it. Alan opened the door surprised that it was open. There was a phone, Alan picked it up to hear the delightful sound of a dial tone. As soon as he punched in 911 the power went out. Alan went outside to see what happened. Alan saw a man with the words “Stucky” on his back. Alan called out for him but got no reply. Stucky held an axe in his hands and black mist spewed off his body……just like the dream. Stucky came after Alan, Alan ran back in the trailer and locked the door. On the table Alan found another page it read “ Alan fled into the trailer hoping Stucky wouldn’t bust the door down like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
Alan was interrupted by the axe that had flew through the door. Alan raced for the gas station, which was within reach.
Alan was worried, scared, and confused all at the same time. He was never so relived in his life to reach the gas station. When he got inside it looked like someone had a bar fight inside. Alan turned his attention to a TV. That came on unexpectedly. On it was Alan pacing back and forth talking like a mad man about finishing the story. The TV turned off, even more confused Alan headed for the phone.
A squad car pulled up to the gas station, a woman stepped out of the car and asked Alan what had happened. Alan told her about his wife missing. Her name was Sarah; she was the sheriff of Bright Falls. Later she asked if Alan had seen the gas station owner “Stucky”. Alan couldn’t tell Sarah what had happened, she would think he was mad and lock him up. “No I haven’t” replied Alan. Officer Sarah asked where they were staying in Bright Falls. “At the cabin on Cauldrin lake”. Alan replied. Sarah stared at Alan, and said “that cabin sank in the seventies”. Alan couldn’t believe this was happening. He demanded that Sarah would take him there.
Once there Alan stared at the startling sight of the waves of Cauldrin lake where his cabin once stood.
CHAPTER 3: RANSOM
Sitting in the police station Alan got asked again what had happened. Alan stared at his cell phone. “It has a new battery, it was dead when you got here.” Said Sarah. The phone rang, Alan answered and stepped out of Sarah’s office. “Alan”? it was Alice, she sounded….wrong. Then a man came on the phone telling Alan to out back of the police station and find the old abandoned truck, he hung up. Alan asked Sarah if he could go get some fresh air. Once outside Alan saw the truck, in the drivers seat was Alice’s drivers license, this guy meant business. The phone rang again, the man told Alan to meet him at Mirror Peak above Cauldrin Lake at midnight he hung up.
Back inside Alan asked to leave, but Sarah wanted to question him more. Then a man in a red coat stormed in, it was Barry Alan’s director and best friend. Barry was a chubby guy and almost bald. Barry insisted to let his client go before he presses charges. In the car Barry asked Alan what the hell was happening. So along the long drive to the lodge, Alan told Barry everything that had happened. Barry believed Alan’s story about Alice, but not about the pages or Stucky.
The lodge was filled with hunting achievements, such as deer heads and antlers, bears, and mammoth skeletons. Around eleven pm Alan had to go meet Alice’s kidnapper. Barry tried to talk him out of it but Alan had his mind set. He grabbed a revolver and a flashlight and set off for Mirror Peak. Since Mirror Peak was mostly a hike Alan couldn’t drive.
For a moment Alan thought of this as a beautiful hike, it was a full moon and lit the way. Then Alan got the feeling that he wasn’t alone. Out of the corner of his eye he saw another dark being and then another. They just kept coming. Alan was drastically out numbered. When all hope seemed lost a flare fell from the sky, and the shadow beings fled. “The names Jones” said the man. He looked at Alan’s flashlight and said “your going to need something a little stronger than that.” Alan was convinced that this was Alice’s kidnapper. Along the way after small talk Alan finally stopped and said, “Where’s my wife”. Jones stopped, “She’s safe”. Alan asked what he wanted. “Your manuscript pages”. Alan was confused, were these the pages he had been finding? “I don’t have them all” Alan said. “Well then you don’t get to see your wife” Jones said. Alan was filled with rage. “Call me when you get them” said Jones.
Walking back to the lodge Alan was thinking of ways to get them all. When he got there, the place was a disaster. A black cloud hovered above the lodge. Alan saw an employee with a very busted up leg. The man said “It happened just like the page said it would”. Alan didn’t have time to read it, he had to see if Barry was ok. Barry was in a corner with a flashlight, Barry didn’t think Alan was crazy anymore.
The next day Barry got a phone call from the waitress at the restraunt. She said that she had Alan’s manuscript pages. Barry told Alan and they raced down to her trailer park. When Alan and Barry walked in they could sense that the waitress was not right. She offered them coffee and they accepted. After a couple sips Barry collapsed. Alan started to get dizzy and fell to the floor. Alan awoke in a bedroom and ran into the living room to check on Barry. He was still passed out and the waitress was on the floor murmuring her restraunt spiel. Then the women from the dark hallway approached Alan. She had a hole where her heart was. “you will never get those pages” she said and then disappeared. Alan then got a call from the kidnapper telling Alan to meet him at the old mining facility. Barry was to heavy to carry so he had to leave him. Once outside police cars and an f.b.i agent named Nightingale confronted Alan for the murder of the waitress and Stucky. Alan couldn’t afford to go to prison, he had to meet up with Jones. With their weapons drawn Alan made a run for it. He could hear them shooting behind him. He dove into the forest and made his way towards the mines.
It was now nighttime and the cops were still on his tail, except Sarah. With lots of running through the forest it was finally quite. Almost at the dam a helicopter rose above Alan. Then something dark consumed it, the helicopter crashed. The darkness was now after Alan. After sprinting through the forest Alan saw Jones on a cliff. Jones handed Alan a flare, then a dark cloud came and took Jones into the sky never to be seen again.
It then came after Alan, Alan lit the flare but the darkness still knocked him off the cliff and into the lake below.
CHAPTER 4: THE TRUTH
Alan awoke in the Bright Falls Mental institute, DR Kaughmen entered the room. Alan walked with Kaughmen out side. Kaughmen explained to Alan that wife was killed, and that Alan mental issues. Alan didn’t believe what Kaughmen was saying he knew what was happening. The lady from the dark hall was the source of the evil. The lake he dove in for his wife was cursed. Once out of it he had been touched by the darkness. The lady wanted Alan to write a story where darkness took over. And he did but Alan was smart enough to write his own escape. So he got in the car and then all this happened. Now he had to write an ending to where he could get his wife back and leave Bright Falls, but she would do anything in her power to stop that from happening.
Alan had to talk to the lady who was obsessed with lights, she had to know something. After Alan had this breakthrough, fbi agent Nightingale arrested him.
CHAPTER 5: THE LIGHTSWITCH
Alan was pleased to see that Barry was in the jail cell with him. Nightingale got a lot of reports that night that electricity was going out and people kept disappearing. It was the darkness, Alan was sure of it. The darkness broke into the wall of the cell and killed Nightingale. The cell was now open this was Alan’s only chance of escape. Alan asked Sarah where the women with the light bulbs was. Sarah said “up on Mirror Peak”.
Alan told Sarah to watch over Barry then made his way towards Mirror Peak. The old women knew exactly why Alan was here, she told him that her husband was a writer and got killed by the darkness. The beings consumed by the darkness were called Taken. She asked Alan to follow her to what she called the bright room. When Alan got inside he was blinded by the light. The old lady showed Alan a device called the light switch. I then found another page by it, but it wasn’t Alan’s it was her husbands. It read “take the switch to the lake.” Alan then knew how to get his wife back.
CHAPTER 6: DECEPTION
Almost at the lake, the darkness was doing everything in its power to stop Alan. The poltergeist took over cars and threw them at Alan. Then Taken were after him. Alan found a floodlight and burnt them all to hell. Once at the lake Alan noticed that the cabin was back. Dark evil clouds hovered above it. Once inside the evil lady stood, dark was flowing through her veins. “You deceived me” she said. Alan took the light switch and shoved it through the hole in her black heart and turned it on.
The evil darkness from the women let out a horrifying scream. Alan had done it he had freed the curse upon Bright Falls. But he still had a story to finish, although it would be much easier without the darkness. Alan sat a the typewriter for days trying to make things right, but the damage was done. The evil women tried to make Alan write his own horror story and she had succeeded. Now the only problem was in order to change the future he would have to change the past, Alan couldn’t relive that past. Alan finally realized that no horror story has a happy ending…
